My Story
Hi there, I'm Emma the face behind the Romsey Cat Café.
Firstly thank you for visiting our website and I hope we will have the pleasure in meeting you at the cat café soon.
Many people ask me what made you open a cat café!?
After visiting a cat café I couldn't stop thinking how wonderful it would be to have one in Hampshire and it felt like it was something I was supposed to do.
My rescue cat Bree along with my beloved cat Louis who I lost in 2016 gave me the inspiration for Paws for Thought Cat Café. I wanted to take something from both my experience's and try to make a difference by either making people more aware of adoption and possibly convert people into cat lovers if they're not already or help someone going through a loss of their beloved pet .
Losing Louis in 2016 was very difficult and it made me realise that many people go through the same thing. It also made me realise that there’s not many places you can go where people want to listen to your stories and help you through it. That’s why I wanted to make this a part of what we do at Paws For Thought Cat Café. I want people to feel like they have somewhere to go to talk about their pets and be able to share their memories with others.
We also want to be able to make a difference and raise awareness for our local rescue centres to help reduce the number of rescue cats left in our centres every year and deter the commercial breeding of kittens. I want to bring this change and happiness to as many cats as possible and I hope to do that together with the support of our lovely customers and fellow cat lovers.
Louis and I
Louis and I first met back in 2003 when I was just 14-years-old. I remember the day like it was yesterday and I'd do anything to go back and do those 13 years all over again. We had great playtimes and have shared many happy memories, I have never felt a bond like it and will never forget the happiness that little boy brought me.
Sadly, Louis passed away in 2016 which was a very hard time for me. It was very unexpected and we didn't have long to say our goodbyes which made it all the harder.
Having experienced the sadness of losing a beloved cat and companion, at Paws for Thought I wanted to create a place where you can share your stories and your memories, whether it's about a pet you have now or a pet in the past, with like-minded people.

Bree and I
We rescued Bree in October 2016 from the Cats Protection. It was a very tough decision to choose from all the rescue cats, and believe me, I wanted to rescue them all!
So, we agreed that we would adopt the first cat we see, as all of their stories were equally as heart breaking and warranted someone to take them home to a loving family.
The first cat we saw was Bree! Bree immediately drew me in with her wonderfully beautiful little face and her timid posterior. I then looked into her story and Bree had been rescued by a lady who knew she wasn’t being looked after correctly and was being kept in bad conditions.
We are truly thankful that this lady acted and helped Bree. In Bree's very short little life she had experienced some awful conditions and experiences and I knew immediately she belonged with us, where she could experience a loving home.
To begin with, Bree wasn’t very affectionate and was scared of a hand reaching to stroke her. She struggled to initially relax and was always on edge, finding it difficult to settle in her environment. After a lot of nurture and attention, Bree is now a different Cat. She is a happy little soul, with some wonderful quirks and behaviours. She loves nothing more than hiding in places around the house, playing with lots of homemade toys and even my hair bands! She is now a far more confident and contented little lady, who brings so much joy to our home.
