Cat Cover Charge
Our Cat cover charge is kindly donated by all our customers and goes towards the Cat Rescue element of Paws For Thought Cat Café. Not only does it help keep our resident cats safe, happy, healthy, out of mischief (For those who've visited you know that applies to Teddy!) it also goes towards all the other kitties we help to rescue.
We rescue stray cats from the local area, get them to the vets for a health check, get them spayed or neutered, find and fund them a foster home until they are all happy and healthy, (and sometimes old enough) to find their forever home.
We also provide foster care for cats who's circumstances have unfortunately changed at home and are no longer able to stay with their current owner either due to health issues or moving somewhere that doesn't accept pets.
We have a great family following on social media who all get involved when we need some help to find some temporary care or people wanting to find a kitty to adopt.

Rescue Success Stories
Willow and Blossom
We rescued these little babies from Romsey town centre. They were found by gardeners carrying out a clearance project. They were clearly malnourished, cold and scared. We managed to coax them into a carrier and took them into care. The vets advised they were only a couple of weeks old. A lovely lady from our foster family offered to take them into care until they are old enough to find their forever home. They are now adopted and living in their purrfect forever home.

Pumpkin & Milo
Pumpkin was recued back in October 2018....hence the name!
Pumpkin was a very little and lost kitten in a bush by the Abbey in Romsey. We were notified by some customers who had just left their visit with us that they could hear a meow coming from the buses. It was a very wet and cold Sunday and this little chap was clearly a lost and frightened stray kitten. After an amazing effort from everyone, we managed to get the little chap out of the buses and into our warm café. He was estimated at 3-4 weeks by the vet and his general health was fine. He just needed lots TLC and that's exactly what he got from our lovely staff member Angie, who ended up keeping him....of course!
Then there's Milo (black & white cat )
Milo was a kitten we had been aware of for a while living in the empty property across the road from us. We have been following a stray family in Romsey for a while but Milo was the only one we saw daily and knew where he was hiding. After a few failed attempts (hence the nickname rascal) of capturing him, we managed to get him safe and well. Angie also took Milo in, in order for us to get him checked and ready for a new home however Milo has taken a while to get used to us humans and getting him to vet checks hasn't been easy! but he is getting there and after a little help and encouragement from his foster brother Pumpkin, he's come out of his shell and now enjoys a cuddle and a play with Angie. As pumpkin and Milo have made this special little bond, Angie has decided to officially rescue Milo and he is now Pumpkins adopted brother.

Lunar
Lunar had been taken in as a stray kitten, however the rescuer at the time realised they were allergic to her and unfortunately couldn't keep her. After many attempts of trying to find Lunar another home with no luck and potentially having to make the decision to put her back on the streets, they heard about us here at Paws For Thought Cat Cafe and called us immediately. Lunar was fostered by our foster carer Yvonne and stayed with her for around 2 months whilst she went through her vet visits. Lunar was a very affectionate girl and as you can see a very beautiful cat....which meant it didn't take long for her to find her forever home. Lunar was rehomed by a customer of ours and has settled in just nicely, as you can see from the photos. We are so happy that Lunar and her adopter Sarah have found each other.

Jess
This is Jess.....isn't she beautiful!
Jess was very well known in the town of Romsey for living in the bush near the Abby. We knew about Jess for a while and after her original home being eventually occupied, she moved across the road to a bush where she stayed for quite a while. I started feeding Jess in January and building a relationship with her to the point where she would wait for me every evening and run over to me meowing for her dinner. I tried a few times to capture her but unfortunately she was very clever and knew to stay away from a carrier or trap. Jess was part of the colony in Romsey and so after some of the other cats catching on to the fact she was being fed every evening, more started to join us for dinner which meant we were getting closer to the other cats we had been trying to capture.
I built quite the bond with this little girl so I knew that if I managed to capture her, she would either join us here at the Cafe or a close friend or relative would need to adopt her in order for me to continue seeing her. And luckily my mother in law was ready for a new cat in her life, so I all I had to do now was capture her.
With the help of Cats Protection, we manged to capture her in March along with 2 males and 2 other females (one being pregnant).....not bad for a days work! The males were neutered and returned to Romsey as they were feral and quite mature and the 2 females were spayed and sent to live out their days on a farm. The pregnant torti left us with 4 kittens who have been looked after by Cats protection and will all have their very own forever homes soon. And Jess is a very happy girl living the life of luxury and I still get to see her when I want to, so I'm also a very happy girl!!

Margot
Margot was rescued by us here at Paws For Thought after a report of her living in a lady’s shed for several months. Margot was with us for a few months after needing medical attention due to signs of Kidney Failure. We luckily got Margot to the vets at a good time and was able to get her the treatment and special diet she needed to get her back to a healthy little lady. Margot is an older girl and with health problems we didn’t think we’d find her a home as easily as we did…. but when things are meant to be, they’ll be! We were contacted by a lady called Sally who has recently moved to her forever home in a retirement village very close to us and was looking to share her new home with a cat that like Sally, just needs some company and love. We thought Margot was the purrfect match for Sally and so did she! Margot was talk of the retirement village and everyone including carers couldn’t wait for Margot to move in. And now Margot is with Sally living very happily together, with all the armchairs and blankets a little lady could ask for, she’s certainly landed on her paws. We are so happy to see another happy ending for one of our rescue cats.

Garfield
Garfield's story is exactly what we set out to do when opening our cat café.
Garfield was badly hurt in Romania and left with terrible injuries, Ioana the rescuer posted asking for donations to help him get the treatment he desperately needed. I couldn’t scroll past and I didn’t have too, as that’s what our cat cover charge money is there for. We sent over a large donation and Garfield was taken into the vets and had his leg amputated immediately and got all the pain relief he needed. He was now safe and in Ioanas care ready for rehabilitation.
We knew he would need a special home due to losing his leg and we couldn’t not try to get him the best forever home he deserved. After hearing 2 of our lovely regulars were looking for a cat that needed a special home and primarily be an indoor cat, it was like it was meant to be. So after having a conversation and them not really having to think about it, we found Garfield his forever home....here in the UK.
We funded Garfield's vet bills and travel costs and Garfield has now arrived at his new furr-ever home. As you can see from the pictures he has settled in and is loving life.
So please know that when you’re donating or visiting our cafe....you’re saving a cats life

Emmy
The amazing team at Every Life Counts rescued this poor little girl in a terrible state from the streets of Romania.
Unfortunately, Emmy needed to have a leg amputated and part of her tail as well, as it was the only way to save her little life.
We don’t know what caused the injuries but sometimes it’s better not knowing!
After having the interventions, she needed so much more care and as she was in a paid foster placement, due to not enough space in their shelter, Iona came to us and asked for our help.
Emmy was only a tiny kitten, but she had fought very hard to still have a bright future and we at Paws For Thought wanted to help give her the best chance, so we of course said yes to Ioana and offered to take Emmy in and get the best care and start to life she could possibly have.
We decided to raise the funds to cover the costs for her passports and travel to the UK, and with the amazing support from our customers and followers, we were able to raise enough to get her over to the UK and to her new home here at the cat cafe.
